OHL Teams Participate In Elite On-Ice Testing Provided By HockeyTech

October 17, 2014 [Guelph, ON] HockeyTech has made available its NEXT Testing program to OHL teams. Ten teams, representing half of the OHL clubs, have either already been tested or are scheduled in the next several weeks. For the first time, nearly every OHL player will have baseline standardized on-ice testing results, which will be made available within HockeyTech’s RinkNet system for analysis and comparison.

NEXT Testing is a service of HockeyTech which is based upon the most current science and sports research, bringing the latest equipment and protocols to bear in assessing and evaluating hockey specific skills and athletic performance potential. NEXT Testing utilizes high tech precision sensors tracking players wearing RFID tags. Testing results are not just start and finish, but rather capture seventy interval times enabling scientific measurements of speed, acceleration, transition and reaction times. All results are summarized in an easily understandable and actionable format, including a single scored index called the NEXT Testing Index (NTI). For the first time in hockey history, there is one universal test to measure players worldwide on a truly level playing field.

Below is the list of OHL teams that have recently been tested through HockeyTech’s NEXT Testing:

  • Belleville Bulls
  • Erie Otters
  • Mississauga Steelheads
  • Niagara IceDogs
  • Plymouth Whalers
  • Saginaw Spirit
  • Sarnia Sting

Below is the list of upcoming scheduled on-ice testing sessions with OHL teams. To personally view any of these sessions, inquire with the team to attend the session:

  • 10/20/2014 – Peterborough Petes
  • 10/21/2014 – Ottawa 67s
  • 11/11/2014 – North Bay Battalion

“Being able to test the top players in the junior age group helps us identify the level of skills that are required to be an elite player”, says NEXT Testing Coordinator, Ian Mosher. “OHL teams are already putting this actionable information to work in helping players to better develop the strengths and deficiencies identified from the NEXT Testing results.”

A key advantage to working with HockeyTech for these OHL teams and their players is that the player test results automatically are updated into HockeyTech’s RinkNet software system, which is utilized by nearly all elite hockey teams to manage their player scouting and evaluation information. Within RinkNet, this data can easily be blended with other player information, including the historical database of NEXT Testing results dating back to 2006. For example, these recent test results allow the comparison of these players to those of a current top NHL player such as Taylor Hall from when he was tested by NEXT Testing at 17 years old.

“Capturing actionable player information and statistics is what HockeyTech is all about”, adds HockeyTech CEO Stu Siegel. “This is truly where advance hockey analytics are headed.”
